What we do

The St. Mary’s Hospital eye clinic provides comprehensive eye services from screening of vision, treatment of common eye diseases, eye injuries, eye surgeries and eye glass prescription. We have two main departments in the clinic i.e. the ophthalmology and the optic departments which offer both primary and specialized eye care services.

General ophthalmology services;

  • Offering cutting edge diagnostic testing and procedure based eye treatment for all ages.
  • Evaluation of patients who may have vision loss and/or complaints
  • Does routine eye examination to diabetic, hypertensive and other chronically ill patients.
  • Diagnosis and management of paedriatic eye conditions like the retinopathy of prematurity, paedriatic glaucoma and neuro-opthalmology disorders.
  • Prescription of eye glasses, lenses and visual aids.
  • Eye surgery and specialty care in conditions like diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration glaucoma cataract surgery, lid repairs, chalazion excision etc.
  • Our ophthalmologist also tests muscles of the eye peripheral vision, color vision and perception and also examines the retina, cornea, and check pressure in the eyes to rule out the risks of glaucoma. It is also important to check kids’ eyes regularly to capture eye problems earlier enough failure to which can affect their productivity and activity. Patients with diabetes and hypertension should have annual dilated eye exam to help prevent or delay vision loss.

Optical department

  • It does routine eye exam to ensure that the glasses prescription is up to date and also for people who don’t need vision correction.
  • Preparation of eye glasses, lenses and visual aids.
  • Stocking a variety of lens materials tints, designs and coatings for children and adults.

Types of lenses materials

  • Antiglares coatings which reduce glare from computer screens and halos at night.
  • Transition lenses that darken as lighten as you go indoors or outdoors and protect from harmful rays outdoors.
  • Polycarbonate and polarized lenses that protect from harmful rays outdoors and are ultra violet and scratch resistant.
  • Progressive lenses that enable you see clearly any distance.

We also attend to eye emergencies 24 hours a day. We are eager to please and strive to offer the best advice

Hi moms, yesterday I took my best friend to St. Mary's Mission Hospital to give birth! Well, I gave birth there in 2016, somehow I had a terrible experience and I could not recommend anyone to give birth there. So yesterday to my surprise, things had changed than I thought! I was so impressed with their service. They have really improved! Nurses were so friendly, helped her walk around since she wanted CS but she ended up giving birth normal 3.8 Kgs. Usafi pia on those rooms, wow! been there from 10 to 7 pm and was allowed to watch over her! Anyway my message is if u are thinking of St. Mary's Langata and you are stranded, you can go ahead. Iko sawa, plus they are now taking NHIF unlike before. Thanks!

Thank you everyone for the calls, sms's, whatsapp, prayers and concern. At around 05hr30 at Elementaita area of the Nakuru highway on our way to Kericho, our vehicle rolled on the roadside trying to avoid a head-on collision with a trailer overtaking another trailer. Thanks to God everyone is okay apart from one passanger still nursing a fractured rib and has been admitted at Nairobi. Safety belts save lives and clearly i haven't finished God's humble work on this beautiful earth. Thank you St. Mary's Mission Hospital Nakuru for the quick ambulance response and hospital check-ups
